Happy Labor Day, everyone! It was three years ago today that I stepped away from my secure, well-paying six-figure corporate job of 11 years along with the great camaraderie of working with wonderfully talented colleagues in order to focus full-time on building my own business and make a greater impact. It was a decision I thought about for a long time. I knew that there wouldn’t be any guarantees of success venturing out on my own. I knew I had a good gig and I didn’t take it for granted. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Two questions come up every time this year…”Was it worth it?” And “Would I ever take a corporate job again?” I can clearly say “yes” to the first question and “maybe” to the second question. I have no regrets. Mind you, it has not been an easy path, but an immensely thrilling and rewarding adventure. I’ve put a lot at risk for the success of my new business…financially, psychologically, and emotionally. I’ve learned so much about myself and what it truly means to take a leap of faith.
I still have a long way to go in getting my business where I’d like it to be, but I’m proud of progress I’ve made and how far I’ve come. I’m celebrating today not for my success (although in my view I have indeed succeeded), but for honoring what was in my heart of hearts and manifesting the courage to give this mission my best shot. I’m proud to say that I’ve kept the faith, even in times of frustration, disappointment, and even dire straits when some of my gambles during the past few years went sideways and didn’t pan out (yet).
I’m incredibly excited about all the amazing possibilities for the future and can’t wait to surround myself with like-minded colleagues and clients who want to share it with me. More to come…
